Mothers Union

The Mothers Union is a Christian organisation, which promotes the well-being of families worldwide. We achieve this by developing prayer and spiritual growth in families. Studying and reflecting on family life and marriage and its place in society.

Trauma Teddies

M.U. Members knit 75 teddies and they are being given to the Ambulance Personnel and then given to children who have to go into Hospital, mainly Altnagelvin Hospital.

Ready Steady Cook

Rev. Hanna, David Steele and David Wilson were the three chefs with Marlene McKay (Smyth) as judge. It was an evening when Dungiven and Bovevagh Parishes got together and the whole evening was hilarious and everyone enjoyed it.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of the Mothers' Union is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life.

  • To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.
  • To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
  • To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians, united in prayer, worship and service.
  • To promote conditions in societyfavorable to stable family life and the protection of children.
  • To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

Faith and Policy

The Faith and Policy Unit aims to facilitate Christian Care for families world wide. Faith and Policy go hand in hand. Policy gives direction and Faith supplies the motivation and energy for the required action. Creating and sustaining change in ourselves and in society takes time, effort, patience and commitment. We aim to nurture Christ's love for families world wide.

Opportunities for worship and prayer are provided during: Quiet days. The Annual Festival Service in St. Columb's Cathedral, Londonderry. Indoor members services of Holy Communion and fellowship.

Intercessions by members on a prayer circle where prayers are regularly offered for people facing adversity of any kind. Use of the Wave of Prayer, a calendar of prayer, which extends over the Anglican world and includes prayers for every part of the Mothers' Union family in turn.

Social Policy Unit The Social Policy Unit works to affirm our faith and action as Christians through informing ourselves of community issues, suggesting practical initiatives and contributing to local, governmental and United Nation policies especially relating to women.
